When You've Got It *Really, Really* Good...

....SHUT THE FUCK UP!

Part-time Co-worker A has a schedule:
9-3 Monday-Thursday
9-2 Friday
**Starting in June, she will only work Monday-Thursday

Her working provides her with spending money. Her husband has a nice job that pays extremely well. She doesn't have to work at all if she doesn't want to and she will call off a day because (fill-in-the-reason). My Boss, B, has bent over backwards to accomodate her. It's never good enough.

So why am I so irritated?
Because A has the audacity to complain about her schedule. It's too much. She doesn't need to work, it's just for spending money, blah blah fuckity blah blah...

The above schedule allows her to take her kids to school and pick them up. It allows her time to run errands before businesses close. She also has the luxury of time to clean, catch up on laundry or just sit on her deck in the sun and sip lemonade.

Her "it's not good enough" attitude is a slap in the face to parents who HAVE to work because there's no other way to make it financially.
I'm not turning this into a Stay-at-home-mom versus Work-outside-of-home-mom thing. god knows there's enough of that in the world already.
I'm pissed off because I'd kill for her schedule! I'd love to be able to have more time to take care of household chores, run errands and spend more time with K.
Not to mention having any money I make be my PERSONAL SPENDING MONEY!

I do not like A. I used to get a long with her pretty well but now I want nothing to do with her. I can only hope she starts having attendence "issues" again and will be replaced.

I know someone like that. She works at the jewelry store so he can get the discount...even though she rarely puts in 15 hrs/wk.

there's something really, really awful about having to be polite to someone who insists on complaining about their particular little issue - whatever it may be - when clearly they've got it far easier in that department than you do. and something really, really willfully self-involved about her making those kinds of laments in front of you and other f/t coworkers.

i have very little patience with people who appear unable to look far enough outside themselves to realize they're treading all over the very people they're complaining to.

sorry you're having to listen to that. can you bite her, or something? or is that not in the job description?

There is nothing i hate more than selfish wankers at work! I've just walked in home at 7:30pm sat evening my baby is in bed and all the staff i work with are worried about their drinking plans for the night, when they finished at 530pm! I get jibed at regular about me been a part time manager, i've worked full time for last 10years i now work 30hours per week. I'd love it to just be spending money! Some people should be grateful for what they've got! Even if i could afford to work less, i'd get demoted, so all my hard work to get where i am would have been for nothing! Sorry to rant prob not best time for me to post a comment!

Feel free to rant. It made me feel better. :)

Wow, your co-worker sounds extremely arrogant. She sounds like a spoiled and ungrateful person. I don't think I would care much for her either.

I am sorry you have to deal with her attitude.

I'm simply going to revert back to my default comment:

I hate people.

(Which is actually a horrible thing coming from an ex-psychotherapist, but there you go.)
